Master Matchmakers Reviews 2025: Pros, Cons, and More!
For better or for worse, in the past decade, the Matchmaking industry has witnessed an explosion of growth. Matchmaking is one of the oldest dating methods, even predating marriage in some cultures, so to say that our industry has stood the test of time would be an understatement. However, our age-old industry is going through some significant growing pains.
As our industry expands, so does the amount of untrustworthy so-called “Matchmakers” entering the area. it’s no secret that Matchmaking is full of sketchy companies that pop up overnight without any qualifications or real proof of their methods. As part of our mission to help every single find love, we’re taking the time to review the major U.S. Matchmaking companies to help you find which is best for you.
If you’re researching different Matchmakers, you’ve likely come across Master Matchmakers. They’ve been established in the industry for over 20 years and have tons of client reviews, but can they deliver their promises? We’ve gathered all of the latest Matchmaker Matchmaker reviews 2025 included their pricing information, how it works, and more to help you on your journey to find true love.
What is Master Matchmakers?
Master Matchmakers is a nationwide Matchmaking and relationship coaching service that’s been in operation for over two decades. With a commitment to helping singles find meaningful connections, the firm is known for its highly personalized approach and one-on-one coaching. They’ve also garnered a reputation in the industry for their dedication to safety and compatibility throughout their Matchmaking process.
Each client and match candidate is asked to complete an in-depth screening process, including background checks, to ensure the client is matched with real people who are who they say they are. Master Matchmakers also utilizes an internal dating app, Love Lab, to help their clients view match profiles and decide whether or not they’d like to meet a match in-person.
Who Owns Master Matchmakers?
Unfortunately, the Master Matchmaker brand has since amassed a more notorious reputation: in 2023 on Valentine’s day, JoAnn was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida for burglary. Even before her arrest, her career took a sharp nosedive as tons of past clients came forward with claims of being harassed by JoAnn.
How Does Master Matchmakers Work?
If you’re interested in becoming a client, you’ll first need to schedule a call with their team via their website. Master Matchmakers extends an offer after the first call, so there’s no lengthy application process. If you decide to join, You’ll be asked to pay up front and schedule another, longer call with one of their personal Matchmaking coaches.
In the three-hour long call, you’ll be asked about your relationship history, deal breakers, and non-negotiables. The Matchmaker will also ask specific questions about your background, career, personality, and hobbies to get a better idea of who you are. After the call, your match search begins!
Unlike other Matchmaking companies, Master Matchmakers isn’t confidential. As a client, you’ll receive actual photos of your matches to help you decide if you’d like to schedule a date. Master Matchmakers also does not plan dates, they only exchange phone numbers.
Interestingly, there’s no set time frame for a Master Matchmakers membership. You pay for a certain number of matches, not for a length of membership. However, matches are defined as candidates whom you actually meet in person, so there’s not a limit on the number of profiles you’ll be presented with. They also offer a pause option for all clients, which is a nice bonus.
Master Matchmakers Reviews 2025

Master Matchmakers Reviews on Reddit
Master Matchmakers doesn’t maintain a good reputation on Reddit. One user recently posted in a few major subreddits detailing their negative experience with the service.
In their posts, they explain that during their 3 years of membership, they’ve only received 2 total matches, and neither one met any of their match criteria. Out of fear of retaliation, they posted under an alias. There are a few comments from other users who say they used Matchmaker Matchmakers and had a good experience, however, it looks like these accounts were created with the sole purpose of leaving these comments.
Master Matchmakers Reviews on Consumer Affairs
Master Matchmakers had great reviews on Consumer Affairs; they currently have a 4.7 out of 5-star rating and 129 total reviews. That said, many reviews on this site are actually from their internal staff.
The most positive reviews mention that they felt completely supported by their Matchmaker, loved their experience overall, and received great matches. The most negative reviews talk about not receiving any matches and being denied a refund.
Master Matchmakers Complaints and Lawsuits
Master Matchmakers certainly isn’t without their fair share of controversy. As of 2025, they have amassed 7 complaints on the BBB, 11 complaints on Complaints Board, and over 20 complaints on Ripoff Report. So far, Master Matchmakers has the most complaints out of any Matchmaking company we’ve reviewed.
On the Better Business Bureau, Master Matchmakers has closed all 7 of their complaints, which is a good sign that they are dedicated to customer service. Their most recent complaint from a previous client details how dissatisfied they were with their services. They say Master Matchmakers did not meet the terms of the contract, and then failed to address any of the client’s concerns. This complaint was resolved, but the outcome wasn’t posted.
Their oldest complaint is very similar to the one above; the client explains how Master Matchmakers failed to meet the terms of their contract by not providing enough matches. When they brought up their concerns to their Matchmaker, they were essentially dismissed. Master Matchmakers resolved the complaint, but we can’t see the outcome of it either.
On the Complaints Board, Master Matchmakers hasn’t made as much effort to resolve customer complaints. Out of the 11 total complaints, only 6 have been resolved. Their most recent complaint is from a customer who received no dates during their year-long membership. They also claim that their Matchmaking team refused to take accountability for the situation. Master Matchmakers has yet to respond.
Their oldest complaint is a very interesting thread. The initial complaint from a verified customer has over 30 total comments, nearly all of which echo the negative experience the original poster shares. The original complaint claims that the Matchmakers use “military-style” interrogation methods and that they were pressured to upgrade to gold-level membership through the duration of their match search.
Most of the comments talk about how they didn’t receive a single match and how the were berated by the founder for asking questions about their business practices. This complaint and subsequent comments remain unresolved.
We still aren’t done: Master Matchmakers has a lengthy complaint thread on Ripoff Report spanning over a decade. With over 20 total complaints and no resolutions to date, it seems they aren’t concerned about any of the customers who’ve complained on this site.
The most recent complaint on Ripoff Report claims that Master Matchmakers are “frauds”. The client says that they received matches who in no way met their minimum criteria, and that their Matchmaker even wrote a scathing blog about the customer. The other complaints mostly echo that sentiment, claiming that they did not receive any matches and that management never offered any form of resolution.
Finally, Master Matchmakers was the subject of a scathing article featured in the L.A. Times. A former client, Daniel Levine, paid Master Matchmakers $5,000 to help him find a life partner. After not receiving matches and complaining to the CEO, Steve Ward, Levine was ignored and denied a refund.
Levine left a negative Yelp review, and thus started a “review war” with Steve. Steve even went as far as to leave a negative review about Levine on his employer’s Yelp page. That’s probably not the best way to handle a negative review! In all seriousness, Steve Ward’s conduct was incredibly unethical. The article goes on to question the legality of the terms and conditions Master Matchmakers sets in their client contracts.
Is Master Matchmakers Legit or a Scam?
If you’ve read any of our other blogs in this series, you’ll know that we do our best to make a fair judgement on the legitimacy of other Matchmaking companies. After reviewing their company history, their co-founders, complaints, client reviews, and information on client success, we cannot confirm that Master Matchmakers is a 100% legit company.
In all honesty, the fact that their co-founder and acting CEO is in a Yelp review war with a previous client speaks volumes about their business practices. We also found that Master Matchmakers has more complaints than any other Matchmaking firm we’ve reviewed. It’s not our place to say that they’re a scam, but we cannot vouch for the validity of their Matchmaking services given the information we uncovered about their company.
Master Matchmakers Cost
Master Matchmakers has tiered membership options, depending on how many matches you’d like to receive, the amount of coaching sessions you’d like to attend, and which Matchmaker will conduct the search on your behalf.
Membership starts at $2,500, but we weren’t able to find their VIP-level membership cost. All memberships are subjected to a $450 non-refundable fee for the initial coaching sessions and your personal background check. Master Matchmakers does have a fair refund policy overall, though: any client can request a prorated refund within 90 days of joining for the Matchmaking service.
Master Matchmakers Success Rate
Alarmingly, we could not find any data on Master Matchmaker’s success rate. As leaders in our industry, we understand that while collecting data on customer satisfaction and program success is sometimes tedious and difficult to navigate, it’s one of the most important metrics for any Matchmaker. Success rates not only build trust with prospective clients, they also help to maintain a goods standing in the industry.
This isn’t a success metric, but we did find a statement about guarantees on the Master Matchmaker website. On their webpage, they state they they cannot guarantee any certain outcome or result from their Matchmaking services. This is really more of a legal disclosure to prevent being sued, but it still makes us question whether Master Matchmakers is truly dedicated to helping their clients find real, lasting love.
Is Master Matchmakers Worth It?
The truth is that we can’t decide whether Master Matchmakers is the best option for your unique needs. it really depends on what you’re looking for from a Matchmaking service and your budget. We can say that anyone especially risk-averse might fair better using another trusted Matchmaker, as Master Matchmakers has garnered some seriously negative reviews and complaints.
If you’re looking for a service that emphasizes relationship coaching, background checks, and a hands-on approach, Master Matchmakers could be a good option for you. They also have one of the lowest entry-level membership prices, so if you’re on a tight budget, you should consider their services.
